New Generation Network
Subcommittee

The research and development of the technology related to a network across each layer is promoted in order to solve the problem arising in the next generation network operations. The high-performance network technology - a Japanese technology - proposes to meet the international standard, and it aims at securing the global competitiveness of our country.

¢£ This technology implements the global interconnection ability verification in optical networks and is used in wide area connection experiment conducted on the world¡Çs first GMPLS at an open site.
¢£ It also helps validate experiments related to the photonic network technology, which has an information communication feature in the optical area through access via the trunk line.
¢£ Further, it helps develop a secure data sharing technology and a grid application in the grid environment.

Human Communications Subcommittee

This committee aims at establishing the first ever global standardization of a technology in Japan, and strengthening our global competitiveness by promoting research and development activities on the overall basic technology related to next-generation human communications.

¢£ The processes of conversion, merging different kinds of media contents, inspection, observation of details, inquiry of new content through a browsing system in an environment, and development of different kinds of media contents involving integration can utilize different environments.
¢£ The basic technology concerning [*network-door-brians] is researched and developed, and it provides an understanding of the user's behavior in different situations. The dynamic construction of the telecommunication service by utilizing an interface suitable for various users is also proposed.
¢£ Possess features for knowledge acquisition, information retrieval, question response, translation (support), etc. Overall development of the language support environment system.

Network Robot Subcommittee

It aims at improving the global competitiveness of Japan by promoting research and development, examining experiments that use a network robot to connect the ubiquitous network to the robot, creating similar technologies within Japan, and establishing international standards.

¢£ A network robot interconnection experiment is carried out for the first time in the world in a state-of-the-art ubiquitous/sensor network environment. This experiment enabled the research and development of the element technology, QoS technology, security technology, etc., for this network robot.
¢£ Research and development of a communication robot that functions along with the general dweller.
¢£ Communication, reproduction of skills, overcoming barriers of time and space by using the information network, and research and development of a skill transmission type robot, etc.

Planning and Public Relation Subcommittee

It aims at the creation of a new theme in pursuit of a better academic research environment. These results would help promote the lab as a place for consolidating the user requirements and provide information on the activities performed.

¢£ The research and development theme , is examined based on the results of a trend survey at NICT. They stated that the research should be examined by regular members from within and outside the laboratory.
¢£ Promotion of the industrial-government-academic complex projects and events involving regular exchange of information leading to the promotion of the "Consortium report association" Various research and development themes can be dealt with by organizing symposiums and inviting visiting faculties. These promotional activities focus on the ways in which the urban industry may be promoted and the lives of citizens may be improved.
¢£ Verifying research activity as well as research and development of maintenance, and the rules related to the promotion of literary property.
